Earl Eugene (Gene) Williams

Earl Eugene (Gene) Williams age 75, of Biscoe, went to be with the Lord on December 27, 2014 at his home in Tupelo, Arkansas. Gene was employed at Producers Rice Mill in Stuttgart for many years.

He was preceded in death by his father Neely Williams, his mother, Irene Williams, brother. W.L. (Bud) Williams and grandson, Kerry Williams.

Gene is survived by his son, Danny (Kathy) Williams; daughters, Rhonda (Rick) Watkins and Gail (Ronnie) Howard; brother, Ed Williams, Sisters, Hazel Overturf and Lucille Price; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Harvest Fellowship Pentecostal Church of God in Lonoke. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, December 29 at Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen. Burial will be at the Biscoe Cemetery.

Ruth Bertie Raper

Ruth Bertie Raper age 88, of Hazen, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2014. Ruth was born in Prairie County on March 3, 1926 the daughter of Julius V. Addison and Minnie Jernigan Addison.

Mrs. Raper was a life long resident of Prairie County, a homemaker, and a member of First Baptist Church of Hazen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl D. Raper and a son, Marcus Raper.

Ruth is survived by three sons, Russell and Dewey Raper of Hazen and Tim Raper of Stuttgart; two daughters, Levone Nelson of Moro and Charlene Boddie of Richardson, Texas.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Friday, December 26, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Hazen. Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 at the church prior to the service. Burial will be in the Center Point Cemetery.

Faye Tarter Carrell

fayeFaye Tarter Carrell, 90, of Carlisle, died Sunday, December 21, 2014. She was born in Carlisle on September 15, 1924, the daughter of Al and Opal Chandler Oliver. Faye was a business owner in Texarkana, Texas where she spent most of her life. She was instrumental in bringing Bible Study Fellowship to Texarkana. Faye was a devoted Christian who used her talents in music and teaching God’s word to women. She was a member of Family Church in Bryant.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, her son, Keith Tarter, Jr., her husband of 42 years, Keith Tarter, Sr. and her husband, Jim Carrell.
She is survived by two daughters, Lana Tarter Tollett (Alan) of Benton and Judi Tarter Jones (Terry) of Little Rock; three grandsons, Scott Tollett (Kim), Brian Jones (Amy), and Brandon Jones; one granddaughter, Tami Croushore; one sister, Odene Brandt of Carlisle and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Westbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Hazen, Arkansas. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M., prior to the service. Interment will be in the Carlisle Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Second Chance Youth Ranch, 21815 Interstate 30, Bryant, Arkansas 72022.

Dora Dean Sutton Snider

Dora Dean Sutton Snider, age 67, of Hazen, passed away December 14, 2014.
She was a retired employee of Remington Arms Corporation. Dora was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy and Modene Sutton; brothers, Bennie and Sammie Sutton, and sisters, Elsie Crymes and Ruth Sutton.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne Snider of Hazen; son Jerry Snider (Becky) of Stuttgart; daughter, Brenda Snider Mitchell (Billy) of Little Rock; grandsons, Jeremy and Cody Snider; Five brothers, Elmo Sutton (Shirley), Frank Sutton and Bruce Sutton all of Des Arc and David and Darrell Sutton of Carlisle; four sisters, Judy Barnett of Crossett, Darline Lumpkin (Paul) of Des Arc, Larinda Childress (Danny) of Des Arc, and Gail Shelby (Larry) of Star City.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church in Hazen. Burial will be in the Carlisle Cemetery.

Richard D. Griffin

Richard D. Griffin, 73, of Cabot went to be with the Lord on December 12, 2014. He was a Methodist, a Mason, a retired Master Electrician, a Vietnam veteran, and enjoyed his many years of work in the Boy Scouts of America.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Golda and Ethel Griffin. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Elva; children, Danny (Cindy) Griffin, Mindy (Stan) Beaver, and David Griffin; grandchildren, Toryn (Coy) Burns, Brooke Beaver, and Jennifer (Randall) Weddington; great-grandchildren, Ainsley Burns coming in March, Aubry and Caleb Weddington; sister, Loretta (Amos) Lawman, and brother, Bob (Para) Griffin.

Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, December 14, 2014 at the Hazen Cemetery in Hazen, Arkansas.

Elizabeth Sparks, 90, of Hazen, died Thursday, December 11, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents; nephew, Trey Rogers; niece, Jessie Long, and her sister, Barbara Long. She is survived by her sister, Sue Rogers of Hazen; nieces, Ruby Hryniewicz, Donna Carter and Carol Sue Beckham; nephews, Billy Ray (Moose) Long, Rex Long and Gary, Terry, Rusty, and Gregg Rogers.

Visitation will be Friday, December 12, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Westbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Hazen. Burial will be in the Hazen Cemetery.

William (Bill) V. Meiner, Jr.

William (Bill) V. Meiner, Jr. of Hazen, died of cancer of Monday, December 8, 2014 at the age of 83.  He was born on March 28, 1931 to Will and Mabel Meiner.  He was give the nickname of “Doodle” at an early age and many still called him by that name.  He began farming when he was very young with his dad and brother and after the death of his dad, he and his brother continued to farm together until their retirement.  He was active in many farm organizations during that time.  He was a member of the Hazen First United Methodist Church, a 32nd degree mason and a member of the Hazen Lodge for over 50 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Doug Meiner.  He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Guffey Meiner; a brother, Gerald (Nye) Meiner of Hazen; a daughter, Stephanie (Mark) Rumfelt of Kentucky; a granddaughter, Jessica Williams of Oklahoma and a special niece and her boys, Kim, Brady, and Weston Smith of Jonesboro.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 10, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen.  Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Thursday, December 11, 2014 at the Hazen First United Methodist Church.

Ed “Porky” Stovesand

Ed Stovesand 001Ed “Porky” Stovesand, a retired farmer from Stuttgart, died Friday, December 05, 2014.  He was born inStuttgart, October 25, 1925.  He married Margie Brown on December 13, 1944.  She preceded him in death in 2004.  Ed was also preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Doris Stovesand and his sister, Gloria and husband, Paul Pettigrew.

Ed served in World War II, liked all sports, especially golf and played semi-pro baseball with Stuttgart from 1946 to 1949.

He is survived by his daughter, Claudia Hogue and husband, Jerry of Fayetteville; son, Jay Stovesand and wife, Debbie of Carlisle; four grandchildren, Jason Stovesand and wife, Marvel  and Eric Stovesand and wife, Julie both of Carlisle, Melissa Broadhurst of Jonesboro, and Erin and Trey Herlein of Fayetteville; five great-grandchildren, Aden, Anna, and Meyah of Carlisle, Hannah Neyens of Fayetteville and Zavier Painter of Conway; brother, Milton Stovesand and wife, Hallie of Stuttgart; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Frances Scarborough, Katy Hein and lots of special friends across the Grand Prairie.

Ed was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stuttgart and memorials may be sent to St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Stuttgart Agricultural Museum of choice of donor.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Monday, December 8, 2014 at St. John’s Lutheran Church inStuttgart.  Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery in Stuttgart.

Paul Howard Jenkins

Paul Howard Jenkins, 71, of Hazen, died Thursday, December 4, 2014.  He was retired from Riceland Foods and the Hazen Fire Department. He enjoyed being outdoors fishing and hunting and selling fireworks.  Paul is survived by his wife, Irma Leota Jenkins; daughter, Kellie Jenkins Cruz; one granddaughter, Amber Mensch; one grandson, Frankie Cruz and two great grandson’s, Nathan and Korbin.

Paul was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Jenkins; his mother Maggie Jenkins; a son, Howard Jenkins; one granddaughter, Blair Mensch and two brothers, Roland and Hubert Jenkins.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen.  Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M.Sunday December 7, 2014 at Morris Chapel Baptist Church.  Burial will be at Walter’s Chapel Cemetery.
