Scotty Arco Abbott Dunar

Scotty Arco Abbott Dunar, of Hazen, Arkansas, joined his Lord and Savior on January 26, 2025. He was born on August 26, 1966, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Percilla Ruth Dill Dunar and Billy Harold Abbott Sr. Scotty was a proud graduate of England Academy and a faithful member of Embassy Church in North Little Rock. Scotty was a vibrant soul with a larger-than-life personality. Loud, outgoing, and full of energy, he never met a stranger. He had a passion for deer hunting and was well-known for cooking up delicious crawfish boils.

His love for Jesus Christ was evident in every aspect of his life, including his participation in several men’s Bible study groups. Last year, Scotty embarked on his first mission trip to Honduras, an experience that brought him immense joy and purpose. He went door to door spreading the gospel, built a church in memory of his late brother-in-law, Joe Hurley, and completed two mission trips with plans to return for more. His work in Honduras was a reflection of his deep faith and love for helping others.

Scotty was preceded in death by his mother, Percilla Ruth Dill Dunar, and his beloved stepfather, Jackie Dunar. He is survived by his father, Billy Harold Abbott Sr.; three sisters: Sheila Hurley of Hazen; Julie (Bob) Maharrey of Birmingham, Alabama; and Cassy (Charles) Wages of Tyler, Texas; as well as one brother, Billy (Annie) Abbott Jr. of Bryceville, Florida. He is also survived by his cherished nieces and nephews: Amanda (Todd) Melton, Franci Hurley (Jim) Corr, Joey (Brandy) Hurley, Brittany Hurley (Parker) Aycock, Jackman Parker, Grace Lopez, Jordan Lopez, Ivan Abbott, and Landon Abbott.

A celebration of Scotty’s life will be held on Monday, February 3, 2025, with a visitation beginning at 1:00 PM, immediately followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM at Family Christian Fellowship in Hazen, led by Pastor Charles Barnes.

Scotty’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Honduras Mission Fund through Family Christian Fellowship to honor Scotty’s dedication to spreading the love of Christ.

Scotty was truly a beautiful soul with a kind spirit. He was best friends with my brother, Randy, and was special to my family. My heart breaks for such an enormous loss. My mother would have been so proud of the fact that Scotty was in church. Rest high on that mountaintop my sweet friend.

We had the pleasure to meet and go to church with him, feel heartbroken for his loss and pray for peace and comfort for his family. We will miss seeing him.

  3. there are no words that can describe how blessed I am to even get to know dunar. I’m sure we can all say good things about him Becuase that’s just how good of a person he was. One thing I will never forget is how thankful he always was. Every conversation I had with him he could go on and on about how thankful he was. I’m thankful I even got to know him. He was the light in every room the jokes he told always made you laugh to the outfits he wore he would always find a way to make you happy when you were feeling down. This one hurts so bad. It is going to be so different without you here and I will miss you so so much.

Dunar was a one of a kind person, It is truly heartbreaking to hear what has happened and when I recieved the news last night I was in complete shock and numb in my body. I spent last night praying and thinking, “Why did this happen”. Although we may never know why, I sense The Creator was telling me exactly what Charlie heard and that was “He is at peace with me”. After being heartbroken about this, I got overwhelmed with peace I can’t describe, and only started remembering Scotty here and the person he was. He truly was a glimpse of Jesus, His smile and the stories he would tell me, the only I could down around him was smile and laugh because, Like Charlie said, he made sure you could feel safe around him. It’s tough but I truly believe he is finally where he belongs and In a better place than he could ever be.

I was so upset upon hearing of his loss. When I woke the next morning I could not get this song out of my head.
When we all get to heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
    When we all see Jesus,
We’ll sing and shout the victory!

We were blessed to have had a chance to know Scotty for a short time. He was always friendly, laughing and joking and giving you a big hug are a strong handshake. Had set with him on Wednesday night about 3 weeks ago and he was excited he had gotten a new fryer and was ready for another fish fry. So sorry for your loss, our hearts are prayers go out to all his family and friends. He truly loved the mission trips and was looking forward to going back. Hope many come to know the Lord through the Church he helped build.
