Linda Dayle Hinton Black of Pine Bluff passed away peacefully at home May 17, 2025.
Linda was born on February 13, 1950 to Mary Alice and Herbert Hinton of Hazen. She was the third of seven children. Linda was a 1968 graduate of Hazen High School and a 1982 graduate of the School of Nursing at the University of Arkansas Monticello. On May 14, 1982, Linda received the Academic Excellence Award in the 1982 graduating class of the Nursing Department at U.A.M. Linda was a Registered Nurse who spent her working career as a surgical nurse at Desha Memorial Hospital in Dumas, Arkansas and as a contract home health nurse with the State of Arkansas serving both Jefferson and Grant counties.
Linda delayed getting her college degree by working at Clark County Memorial Hospital in Arkadelphia in order to help her husband earn his college degree and eventually giving birth to their two daughters. Linda never lost sight of getting her college degree and she earned that degree with excellence in 1982.
If a friend was in need, Linda was always ready and willing to help out in any way possible. She really enjoyed playing bunco each month with her group at Grace Episcopal Church. She also enjoyed spending time at their home on Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs.
Linda was a keen bird watcher and enjoyed feeding them. Seems like every year all the birds in the area would find their way to Linda’s feeders and she had plenty of them! Between Linda and her son-in-law Tom Burnett, they knew every song and wild bird known to man-kind!
Family gatherings were not complete without Linda’s (better known as “Nana” to her grandchildren), home-made chocolate chip cookies. Orders for those chocolate cookies were placed by her grandchildren long before the family gathering took place!
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Karon Hinton and Robin Renee Hinton Raper.
Linda is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 55 years Dickie Black. Linda and Dickie were married May 30, 1969 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Tollville, Arkansas. Together they are proud parents of two daughters, Jennifer (Tom) Michelle Burnett of Little Rock and Lauren (Marvin Hence) Denise Black of White Hall. Linda is also survived by her grandchildren Haley Anne Burnett of Little Rock, Kevin Compton, Jr. of Fayetteville, Hope Kathleen Burnett of Little Rock, Brette Marie Burnett of Little Rock and Blaze Easton Hence of White Hall. Linda is also survived by sisters Nyna (Tom) Oshel of Hot Springs Village, Vickey (Mike) Mccallister of Houston, Texas, Theresa (Kevin) Garland of Little Rock and brother Butch Hinton of Texarkana, Texas.
A Memorial Service for Linda will be Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Tollville(DeValls Bluff) south of Hazen. Arrangements have been entrusted with Westbrook Funeral Home of Hazen, Arkansas.

Linda was a great person as is her husband Dickie. God did not make better people. Dickie, I am so sorry!
Dickie, Jennifer, Lauren and family….you are in our prayers for peace and comfort. Linda will be missed but so remembered for her beauty inside and out as well as all she did for her family, friends and even strangers. She meant a great deal to all who knew her and I will always remember her laughter and the sparkle in her eyes. Carry on and continue to make her proud–until you meet again.
Linda was my lovely sister 13 months younger, lot of memories growing up together. She was so kind and adored her family. Linda cherished her husband and daughters more than anything, a lady of faith and outstanding nurse. Distance or differences did not change our love for one another. I will miss her deeply and dearly ❤️ Nyna Hinton Oshel
My deepest condolences to the friends and family of Linda. I know she was a dear person to so many. I didn’t know her well but she always had kind words and was always welcoming.

I’m thankful for the opportunity to have had Dickie, Linda, and the girls as wonderful neighbors in Deerfield. Years later I saw Linda in Little Rock, and we spent a few minutes trying to catch up with Linda sharing about Lauren and Jennifer and their families. It was obvious Linda was so proud of them, especially her grandchildren! May your sweet memories of Linda provide comfort.
