Tessie Arcola Tipton

Tessie Arcola Tipton, age 84, of Stuttgart, died Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at her home surrounded by her children. She was born March 25, 1929 in Carlisle, Arkansas, to Arvil and Ruby King. Tessie was retired from Riceland Foods.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.B. Tipton; one sister, Elwanda Baxter and one brother, Eugene King.

Tessie is survived by two daughters, Brenda (Donald) Persons of Pine Bluff and Marty (Robert) Tucek of Stuttgart; two sons, James “Jug” (Corman) Tipton of De Valls Bluff and Johnny (Karen) Tipton of Hazen; 11 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 26, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Thursday, February 27 at the Westbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Hazen. Burial will be in the Center Point Cemetery.


Walter A. Case

Walter A. Case, 92, of Hazen died Monday, February 24, 2014.  He was a former employee of Riceland Foods and a veteran.  Walter is survived by his wife of 53 years, Addie Case and four children, Mike Case (Diane) of Liberty, Texas, Doris Cunningham (Evelyn) of Morrilton, Rachel Homes of Conway and Geneva Manson (Bob) of Hazen.  Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Center Point Missionary Baptist Church with burial in the Center Point Cemetery.

Beverly Jayne Hall

Beverly Jayne Hall, 58, of Biscoe left this earth on Wednesday, February 19, 2014.  There was a happy meeting in heaven as she was reunited with her daddy, Jewell P. Hall, Sr.; her sister, Sherrilynn Willeford;  her nephew, Aaron Hall; and her grandparents, among others.

She is survived by three sons, Kyle (Courtney) Hall of Biscoe, Dylan (Meagan) Tipton of Cabot and Beau Tipton of Manila; four grandsons, Cody Hall, Gabe and  Levi Tipton, and Kaiden Tipton; her very best friend, Marty Williams of Biscoe; her mother, Daisy Hall of Biscoe; brother, Paul (Donna)Hall of Wynne; three sisters, Gloria (Henry)Strohl and Sonja (Vernon) Owens of DeValls Bluff and Brenda (Charles) Simpson of Biscoe; plus a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and friends.

Beverly was born December 6, 1955 at Des Arc, the fourth child of Jewell and Daisy Hall.  Beverly was a member of Biscoe FirstBaptist Church.  She was a graduate of DeValls Bluff High School and attended Arkansas State University at Beebe.  She was proud of her service with the Hazen Unit of the Arkansas National Guard.   She was a refinery operator with Riceland Foods at Stuttgart.

Growing up on the farm, Beverly was a true “daddy’s girl” and was always eager to help him.  She loved to dance and participated in several competitions while in high school. Beverly loved sports and enjoyed watching her grandsons play ball.  Beverly loved being outside and was meticulous about her flowers and yard.   She and Marty spent a lot of time traveling, going on cruises and walking.  They could be seen walking Highway 70 nearly every day until  this past year.   Beverly’s favorite place to go was the beach – any beach.  She had an outgoing personality and perpetual smile that was her hallmark.  She looked forward to Friday nights when she, her mother, her sisters and nieces had a standing date for a Girls’ Night Out.

Beverly was diagnosed with lung cancer July 8, 2013, and fought valiantly to overcome this disease.  The family appreciates Dr. Kewen Jauss and the North Little Rock Oncology staff, Baptist Hospice, CARTI, Pam Tipton and Freida Isbell for their excellent care.  Also, Beverly’s family will be forever grateful to Marty Williams for her unselfish devotion to Beverly, especially during this battle with cancer.

Beverly was a loving, feisty, fun-loving, energetic person who will live forever in our hearts until we are reunited with her in heaven.

Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 22, at 11:00 a.m., First Baptist Church in Biscoe.  Visitation will be Friday night at Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be submitted to Biscoe Fire Department, Hazen Cemetery Association or C.A.R.T.I.



Nellie Faye Tosh

Nellie Faye Tosh, 86, of Cabot died February 15, 2013.  She was born December 11, 1927 to Carey and Lottie Huey.  Until 2008 she was a life long resident of Carlisle and the Hamilton Community where she held many happy memories.

Nellie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Archie Tosh and young son, Johnny Tosh.  She is survived by her daughter Ann Coyle and husband, James and family Bradley, Alissa, Donavan, and Eli; her brother, J.V. Huey and wife, Bonita; her step-daughter, Edith and her son, Keith James.  Her daughter would like to express appreciation to Cabot Nursing and Rehab for their care and concern given her mother over the past five years.  Funeral services will 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the Hamilton Baptist Church.  Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the church prior to the service.  Burial will be in the Hamilton Cemetery.

Warren Doss

Warren Doss entered his eternal home on Tuesday February 11, 2014.  Born December 17, 1924 at Ruston, LA.  Preceded in death by his wife Etta Doss; parents Henry Doss and Amelia Doss; one brother Madden Doss; one sister, Cornelia May; and one son Dan Doss.  He is survived by his son and his wife Rick Doss and Paula Doss; grand-daughter Jennifer Doss; great grand-son Noble Doss all of Little Rock, AR  ; grand-son and his wife Jacob and Larissa Doss; and great grand-sons Nathaniel and Greyson Doss all of Rockledge, FL.

Shortly after completing high school in 1943, Warren was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the 8th Infantry Division 3rd Battalion 121st Regiment in combat in France, Belgium and Germany. With the 8th (Golden Arrow) Infantry Division in Germany he was awarded three Bronze Stars for heroic achievement. His great personal courage and devotion to duty contributed largely to the evacuation of three wounded men whose lives would otherwise have been lost.

After release from armed services he attended Southern State University majoring in business administration, served 12 years in oil, investments and accounting.  He was a tax auditor for the Arkansas Employment Security Division for 9 years.

He moved to Hazen and opened an Accounting and Tax office until his retirement.  Warren served as Prairie County Justice of Peace, member of Hazen First United Methodist Church, teacher for Fellowship Sunday School Class, member of Men’s Fellowship Class, Choir, and Administrative Board.

Services will be Saturday February 15 at 2 PM at Hazen First United Methodist Church and burial at Czech Cemetery.  Visitation will be 5 to 7 PM at Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen.  Memorials may be made to Hazen United Methodist Church or charity of your choice.

Frances Kathryn Edge

Frances Kathryn Edge, age 83, of Hazen was born July 6, 1930 and went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 8, 2014.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Hazen.  Frances was preceded in death by parents, Guy and Ella Ward; seven siblings, one son-in-law, and a step-grandson.  She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Bud Edge; daughter, Wanda Tiner; son, Ricky Edge and wife Marilyn and daughter, Tammy Edge; grandchildren, Ray Tiner, Tonya Fletcher, Lee Edge (Darla) and Taneesa Richardson (Will); step –grandchildren, Eric Abrams, Brandy Hayes, and Crystal Tosh; great grandchildrfen, Christina clayton, Andrew Bowen (Beth), Hayden and Heath Richardson, Courtney Edge and Hunter Edge and one great-great grandson, Kyler Clayton.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday, February 10 at the Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen.  Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Hazen by Bro. Christian VanHouten and Bro. David Inzer.  Burial will be in the Hazen Cemetery.

Bryce Anthony Griffin

Bryce Anthony Griffin age 5 of De Valls Bluff, died Thursday, February 6, 2014.  He is survived by his parents, Stephen and Amie Griffin; grandparents, Ricky Guenther, Margaret Hartley, and Joey Griffin; great-grandparents, Joseph and June Griffin, Jimmy Guenther, and Donna and James Fricker; uncles, Jacob and Lee Hartley, Jeremy and Jerry Griffin, and Scott Guenther; aunt, Monica Griffin; aunt and uncle’s, Michael and Stacy Sawyer and Hayden and Raven Walton; Wilma and Junior Lovell and family of Oklahoma, Darla and J.W. Thompson and John and Nikki and Trey Thomson.

Funeral services will be 1:00 Sunday, February 9, 2014 at the Westbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Hazen.  The family has requested that this service be private; immediate family and close friends only.  Burial will be in the Biscoe Cemetery.  Arrangements by Westbrook Funeral Home of Hazen.
