Billy Edward Yarnell

Billy Edward Yarnell, affectionately known to many as “Mr. Bill,” “Pappa,” and “Yarney,” passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, at the age of 86.

Billy was born on December 13, 1939, in Searcy, Arkansas, to Sarah Kathryn Marsh Yarnell and William Edward Yarnell, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Carlisle High School with the Class of 1957 and proudly served his country in the United States Army. While stationed in Germany, he wrote a letter to Faye Lynne asking her to come to Germany and marry him. She did, and the two were married there in 1960.

After returning home, Billy built a career as a car salesman.  He loved spending time on the golf course—especially showing off what everyone knew was “a sweet lefty”—fishing, and making memories at deer camp. He also had a passion for cooking, always adding his own flare to any recipe. He was known for his booming laugh, his unforgettable bear hugs, and his playful sense of humor that could brighten any room. Family and friends also knew that wherever he went, an ice chest was riding along on the middle floorboard of the back seat. It was simply part of who he was.

Billy is survived by his wife of 66 years, Faye Lynne Yarnell; his son, Billy Edward Yarnell II and wife, Diane, of Yuma, Arizona; and his daughter, Wendy Harris of Cabot, Arkansas.

He was Pappa to his grandchildren: Susanna Gray of Lexington, Kentucky; Clayton Yarnell and wife, Shelly, of Hazen, Arkansas; Caleb Gammill and wife, Bridgett, of Lonoke, Arkansas; and Caity Baker and husband, Chris, of Lonoke, Arkansas.

He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren: Lillian, Lucille, and Lawson Gammill; Sam Gray; Ethan Yarnell; Avery and Emery Neyland; and Blaze Baker.

A memorial service celebrating Billy’s life will be held at Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen on Tuesday, July 14th at 1:00pm. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a life well lived.
