Virgil Mak Sample

Virgil Mak Sample, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully departed this world on July 31, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on April 9, 1947, in the warm and welcoming town of Hazen, Arkansas, Virgil was the beloved son of the late Collie Mae Sample and Virgil Mak Sample Senior. His journey through life was marked by strength, independence, and an unwavering commitment to his family.

A proud graduate of Hazen High School in 1965, Virgil’s life was a testament to dedication and service. He answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corps, where he served with honor from December 28, 1967, until his honorable discharge on May 19, 1969, attaining the rank of Lance Corporal.

Following his military service, Virgil embarked on a fulfilling career that spanned several decades. He dedicated 15 years of hard work to Remington Arms before bringing his talents to Maybelline for another decade. His professional journey culminated at Wheatland Tube, where he worked from 1988 until his retirement in 2006.

Virgil’s life was rich with passion and joy, particularly when it came to sports. He was an avid watcher of basketball and football, always ready to cheer on his favorite teams. But above all, Virgil’s heart belonged to his family. A devoted husband to Patricia Belle Sample, their love story was one for the ages. Together, they built a loving home and raised a beautiful family.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for those who survive him, including his beloved wife Patricia, his children Samantha Kay Sample and William Anthony Sample. Virgil was also a proud grandfather to four grandchildren, Kiley Nicole Sample, Seth Allen Simpkins , Brody Ray Simpkins and Gracelynn Rose whose lives he enriched with his unwavering love and wisdom.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to Virgil’s closest friend, Paul E. Brandy Lindsey, and Brian in the ICU at St. Vincent Hospital and Barbara and George Beall whose support and care have been invaluable.

A service to honor and celebrate Virgil’s life will be held on August 14, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the Oasis Church of Hazen, located at 113 North Hazen Ave., Hazen, AR 72064. Family and friends are invited to gather and share in the remembrance of a remarkable man who touched so many lives.

Virgil’s journey on this earth may have come to an end, but his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His legacy is one of love, strength, and dedication—a true reflection of a life well-lived. Service will be officiated by Pastor Teddy Walker. Graveside service will be held at Centerpoint 2997 Centerpoint Road Hazen AR 72064 after the funeral service.
