Frances Ann Caviness

Frances Ann Caviness, of Carlisle, slipped peacefully from this life on March 2, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with numerous health issues. Frances was born July 19, 1940 in Stuttgart, Arkansas; she was the daughter of Frank and Mary Skarda Halijan.

Frances is survived by her son, Brad Caviness and wife, Lori of Carlisle; her grandsons, Parker (Madeline) Caviness of Carlisle, Perry (Mary Kate) Caviness of Little Rock, and Pierce (Alyssa) Caviness of Dallas, Texas; great-grandchildren, Gray and Harrison Caviness.

Frances leaves behind one brother, Frank Halijan Jr. and his sons, Doug, Darin, and Dean along with their families’.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years, Kenneth Caviness; and sister-in-law, Brenda Halijan.

Frances was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Family was the center of her world. She spent many hours helping on the farm and was known as an excellent bookkeeper and organizer.

While in good health Frances enjoyed the outdoors and kept her own yard and shrubs. She was very knowledgeable about horticulture and had a beautiful rose garden that she worked on timelessly.

Frances liked to stay busy, she was an amazing cook, as those who were lucky enough to be invited to one of her lunches, would be happy  to testify to. For many years Frances made the german slaw and hand rolled all the hush puppies that were served at Big K’s catfish barn.

Between cooking, taking lunches to the field, and going to check on her beloved grandsons, Frances spent her time selflessly taking care of others. She was truly one of a kind and will be missed by all those who knew and loved her. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Angela Herrera, Amy Ferebee, and Regina Staton for the care and companionship they provided during Frances’’ illness. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, March 5th beginning at 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen, Arkansas.

A graveside service will be Thursday, March 6th at the Hazen Cemetery beginning at 11:00AM.
