Arlene R. Burks

Arlene R. Burks passed away suddenly on May 7, 2022 in her home. She was 82 years young. She was born on October 25, 1939 in Hazen, Arkansas. She resided in the Brown Grove community of Hazen, Arkansas.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, Ella Mae Ricks Bowen and Edward Ricks; her step-father, Dale Bowen; her brother, Junior Ricks, and her first husband, Trennis Raper.  She is survived by her husband of 37 years, James Burks; four children, Lelia Jo Raper Zimmerman, Eddie Raper and wife, Sandy, Scott Burks and Jerry Burks and wife, Rachel; 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; her brother, Billy Ricks and her sister, Gerri Slayton both of Illinois.

Arlene lived a full, lively and wonderful life.  She loved to travel, read, work with electronics, cook and garden.  She was happiest when surrounded by her large and loving family.  She loved her family fiercely.  She was a jokester with a quick wit, great sense of humor and ready laugh.  She was a respected and loved member of her community, always wanting to help others and see to their needs.

She was an active member of Center Point Missionary Baptist Church and past member of Brown Grove Baptist Church.  She is fondly remembered for her fried okra, which she brought to church whenever there was a potluck or bereavement meal.

We will always carry her memory in our hearts.

Arlene always had a smile on her face. She was a co worker of ours back in her working days and we always cherished the time we shared working with her.

She was a very kind lady and opened her home to a special Exchange student. She and Mr. James were always so kind.
