Mary K. Lancaster Sharp left her earthly home on September 28, 2026 at the age of 99. She was born on June 6, 1927 to Her parents, Ralph and Dora Mae (Stevens) Lancaster. She was raised in Biscoe and DeValls Bluff, graduating from DeValls Bluff High School in 1947. She married Mandel Sharp that same year. They had almost 73 years (one month short) together before his death in 2020. Mary worked many places over the years including, picking cotton, VanHeusen shirt factory in Brinkley, the courthouse in DeValls Bluff, the phone company, Comet Rice, and she ran the Stuttgart Housing Authority in Stuttgart where she orchestrated the building of new apartments on 10th street. But, one of her favorite jobs that she had in the 50’s and again in the 90’s , was selling Avon because it gave her an excuse to get out and talk to people. Mary was a worker. She maintained her own home and yard, working early mornings and late evenings to plant flowers and garden. She tried to help others if she could and if she couldn’t, she would try to find someone who could. She loved her family above all else, sacrificing to see that they had what they needed.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, including a much loved step-father, P.R. Ivy; her sister, Jerry Gurley and her brother, Larry Lancaster as well as two sons-in-law, George Edward Weatherley and Bruce Goff, and a host of other family and close friends.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Shirley Goff; her grandsons, George Weatherley (Crystal) and Brian Weatherley; great-granddaughters, Rowan Giglio, Naomi Weatherley and great-great granddaughter, Rory Giglio.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 24, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at the family cemetery at 396 East Walnut in DeValls Bluff, behind her daughter’s house.
