Bruce McKenzie, age 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Furlow, Arkansas on September 9, 2026 surrounded by his loved ones. Bruce was born on December 17, 1937 to Curtis Lynn McKenzie and Virgie Ellis Phiefer of Biscoe Arkansas, Bruce’s life was a testament to kindness and devotion. He had a sweet lighthearted sense of humor that brought joy to those who knew him. He was a loving and dedicated father who took great pride in his sons and cherished his family deeply. Bruce was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 56 years, Mary Alice Floyd McKenzie, whose love and companionship defined much of his life’s happiness. He also mourned the loss of his beloved son Bruce Scott McKenzie; his loving parents, Curtis and Virgie McKenzie; and his dear sweet sister Linnie Lue Holmes of Biscoe.
Bruce proudly served his country in the United States Air Force at Carswell Air Force Base in Texas where he served as a firefighter and aircraft crash rescue specialist. After finishing his service he moved to North Little Rock Arkansas where he settled down to raise his family. He worked for Stone Container as a press operator for the next 40 years dedicating himself to providing for his family. While raising his sons, Bruce shared his love of sports by coaching. His dedication to coaching went far beyond the game. He became a mentor and role model to many young men, touching countless lives through his encouragement, guidance, and love of the sports. The lessons he taught, both on and off the field, left a lasting impression on the young people he coached.
He leaves behind his son Greg McKenzie (Lisa) of Furlow; 6 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.
To celebrate his life, visitation will be Saturday, September 12th, 2026 from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. with funeral services immediately following beginning at 1:00 P.M. held at the First Baptist Church located at 444 North Dixon Street, Biscoe, Arkansaswith Reverend Billy Booth officiating. Interment will be in the Hazen Cemetery following the service.
