Charles Richard Tarter, 77, of Hazen passed away September 24, 2018. He was a former farm manager and a licensed Baptist minister. He is survived by his son, Bobby Joe of Hazen and sister-in-law Denise Tarter and nephew, Keith Tarter of North Little Rock. Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Chloe; his parents, Arthur and Ruby Hardke Tarter; his brother, William “Butch” Tarter; and infant brother, Bobby Joe.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Thursday, September 27 at Center Point Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Carlisle Cemetery.

Shirley Sue Campbell

Shirley Sue Campbell, 80 of Carlisle, was called home September 21, 2018. She was born September 22, 1937 in Hazen. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Clarice Campbell; two sisters, Betty Nell Campbell, Claudia Williams, and brother, Lester Campbell.

She is survived by one son, Jack Grantham; two daughters, Cathy Arkless and Sonya Scott; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday, September 24, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. at Landmark Baptist Church in Carlisle followed by graveside service at Center Point Cemetery.

Martha Jean Greenwalt

Martha Jean Greenwalt, 90 of Carlisle, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Chambers Nursing Home. She was born July 10, 1928 in Manchester, Illinois the daughter of Russell and Cecile Duncan. Jean was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Harold and her son, Stephen, her brother, Bob Duncan and her sister, Ruth Thompson and her parents. She is survived by her brother, Bill (Darlene) Duncan and her sister, Wilma (Keith) Collins, both of Illinois, and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Center Point Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 18 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen.

Gloria Mae Bujarski Uhiren

Gloria Mae Bujarski Uhiren, 91, of Carlisle, passed away September 14, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank & Emma (Keller) Bujarski; her husband of 41 years, William (Bill) Uhiren; an infant son; brother, Norvell Bujarski and sister, Marie Collins. She is survived by her four children; Debby Welch (Bill) of Bentonville, Arkansas; Peggy Moody (Curt) of Carlisle; Fred Uhiren (Rhonda) of Hazen; Joan Woodruff of Little Rock and her sister; Charlotte Halter of North Little Rock. Gloria had 8 grandchildren; William Moody (Melissa), Michelle Uhiren Venne, Christopher Paladino, Drew Moody (Tessa), Katie Reagan, Michael Paladino (Leslie), Joey Uhiren and Wendy Uhiren. She had nine great-grandchildren; 2 boys and 7 girls and a host of beloved nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Gloria was born at St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock, Arkansas. She lived her first 3 years in Levy, Arkansas and then resided on Main Street in North Little Rock, Arkansas across from North Little Rock Old Main High School. Gloria went to school at St. Patrick’s Catholic School in North Little Rock, Arkansas and graduated from Mount St. Mary’s High School, Little Rock, Arkansas at the age of 16. She was a member of the Nu Phi Mu sorority. At the age of six, she began working at the family sandwich shop, Frank’s Place, next to their home. She was a businesswoman in little Rock until she married her love of her life, husband, Bill. She and Bill farmed in Prairie County. They moved to Carlisle, Arkansas in 1964. Gloria loved to dance! She served as president of Carlisle Schools Parent Teacher Association and as president of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church Altar Society and was member of Farm Bureau. With her bookwork experience and Bill’s farming skills, they had a very successful farming operation. She loved the Catholic Church and attended daily Mass as often as she could. She prayed the rosary daily and had a strong belief in Saint Anthony of Padua, patron saint of the return of lost articles and was a faithful attendee at First Friday Services.

The family has many people to thank but offer special gratitude to Chambers Nursing Home Center, Baptist Hospital at Springhill, Dr. Kenneth Sauer and special grandchildren, Katy, Chris, Wendy, William, and Drew.

The family requests that memorials be made to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Carlisle, P.O. Box M, Carlisle, Ar. 72024 or Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Cemetery in Slovak.

Rosary will be at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, September 16, 2018 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Carlisle. Visitation will be from 3:30 to 4:30 at the church prior to the funeral at 4:30. Burial will be at the Slovak Catholic Cemetery in Slovak.

Jackie Eugene Larkan

Jackie Eugene Larkan, 77 of Orange Park, Florida, formerly of Hazen, passed away September 6, 2018. He was born July 5, 1941 to Buck and Syble Larkan. Jackie was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bobby Larkan; sister, Linda Larkan and his son, Todd Larkan. He leaves to cherish his memory, his high school sweetheart and wife of 55 years, Mary Ashlin Larkan; his son, Lonnie (Cathy) Larkan; two grandsons, Zachary (Kelli) Larkan all of Orange Park, Florida and grandson, Bill Cusic (Mary) of Oahu, Hawaii and 7 great grandchildren; special cousins, Wanda Scott, Johnny Larkan, and James Weddle.

He will be missed by everyone he knew. Jack was a a kind and loving man and a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He retired from Entergy and Arkansas National Guard. He loved fishing and duck hunting with his best buddy, Harvey Sorrows. Jackie was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Hazen lodge, where he also served as past master.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Thursday, September 13, 2018 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Hazen with visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. prior to the service.

Burial will be in the Lonoke Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Jackie’s memory to Haven Hospice, 745 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, Florida, 32065.

Gregory Edward Grady

It is with great sadness that the family of Gregory Edward Grady of Hazen announce his passing on September 6, 2018, at the age of 55 years. Greg will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Mychal and Nathan Grady; his mother, Darlene Tunker; his sister, Mischelle Grady Thiels; his brother-in-law, Paul Thiels; his nephew, John Grady Thiels and his nieces, Lillian and Beatrice Thiels; his uncle, Larry Grady and wife, Sue Grady; his aunt Marilyn Sims and husband, Buddy Sims and cousins Melanie Sims Konecny, Jason and Jody Grady and Julie Grady Serna. Greg was preceded in death by his father, Michael Grady.

Greg was a graduate of Des Arc High School and attended Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being in nature, especially with his sons, Mychal and Nathan. Greg also enjoyed documenting nature through photography.

A funeral service in memory of Greg will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the Hazen First United Methodist Church, 211 North Hazen Avenue. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 prior to the service at 11:00 A.M. Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Greg to the Arkansas Sheriff’s Youth Ranch.

Sharon Lavon Gates

Sharon Lavon Gates, 67 of Hazen, died September 10, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Rogers, Arkansas. She is survived by her son, Kevin Brownell, Jr. of Dewey, Oklahoma; one daughter, Shannon Newby of Florida; three grandchildren, Nicholas Cole Brownell, Blakeley and Christian-Troy Newby and her brother, Wayne Gates. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Troy and Emma Jean Gates. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at the Center Point Cemetery in Hazen.
