Drake William Jones

Drake William Jones, age 17, of Hazen, Arkansas, was called home on Saturday, January 6, 2018.  Drake was a member of the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.  Drake had accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

Drake was a Junior at Hazen High School.  He was an honor student who participated in football, baseball, track, quiz bowl, art club, FBLA and many more.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.  He just loved being outdoors in general and he loved his animals.

Drake never met a stranger.  He had the most infectious smile and laugh and the most beautiful eyes.  He could light up a room.  Drake was always so conscientious and considerate of others.  He was always curious and inquisitive.  He had so much enthusiasm and strived for perfection in everything he did.  He was full of life and he lived his life to the fullest.  He was our little buddy and we were his biggest fans.

Drake was preceded in death by his great grandparents, William “Bill” Whitley, Joe and Natha Lee Morrison, and Elsie Marie Garner.  He leaves behind his parents, Jason and Cindy Jones; his grandparents, Stan and Sharon Jones and Lynn and Martha Fagan; his great grandmother, Maxine Whitley; his aunt, Jennifer Jones; uncle, Bradley Fagan and a host of great aunts, uncles, cousins, classmates and friends.

John 3: 16”- For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Drake loved the Lord, his family and friends and wasn’t afraid to show it.  Please join us as we celebrate Drakes life.  Visitation will be held at the Hazen High School Gymnasium on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Hazen on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. Burial will follow at Center Point Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “Catch A Dream. Org.

I remember when Jason met Cindy. They quickly fell in love with each other. Both sets of parents supported the young couples relationship and soon they married. Sometime after that we all gathered around Jason and Cindy at the hospital where Baby Drake was introduced to the world. Drake was absolutely perfect in every single way! Mommy, Daddy, and all grandparents instantly fell head over heels in love with this happy and extra smart n handsome little guy. Drake was raised in a very loving and caring family. When Drake was 2 or 3 years old I asked Jason and Cindy if they planned on having more children. I’ve never forgotten their answer, “We could never have another child as perfect for us as Drake.” Drake is now in the arms of Jesus. Please God, hold on to Jason, Cindy, and their grandparents. They will need your Almighty power to strengthen them the rest of their lives.

Our hearts are broken and we are all hurting here in California. Drake is my Great Nephew, and even though the distance kept us from seeing each other as much as we’d like, we always looked forward to keeping in touch through Drakes posts on social media, or by keeping up by phone with our family somehow. I had just received a text message from my Nephew Jason (Drakes Dad) the day after Christmas with a picture of Drake sitting in his truck thanking us for the travel mugs we had sent them. I commented on how grown up Drake had become and said how much he reminded me of Jason at that age. Jason wrote back that he was so lucky to have him. I can’t believe that was the last photo I would have of him. Drake, Cindy and Jason came to visit us in California in 2011, and we instantly fell in love with Drake. We all swam in our pool, took Drake to the beach for his very first time, went to Disneyland, and had many back yard BBQ’s with all his Cali Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. I just wrote on Drakes Birthday post how he was way over do to come back for another visit. Our family will never be the same without him, but I know we will all meet again in Heaven one day. To Cindy, Jason, Stan, Sharon and to his other Grandparents, and to all who loved Drake, please feel our arms around you as we all Pray together. We love you Drake.

Jason and Cindy, I am so sorry for your loss. Drake was such an intelligent, talented, and sweet young man. It was my privilege to get to teach him his 7th grade year. His infectious smile and great sense of humor lifted us up many times. I had the boys all together in an all boys class that year, and they taught me more about honor and integrity as 7th graders than in any situation I had been in during my life. If something was going on they would get in a circle and pray right there. You were wonderful parents and raised a very happy young man who lived every minute of every day to its fullest! He was loved by many and will be missed by many! I will be praying for you.

  65. Carrie and David Clark Says:

Today, January 10, 2017, Drake will be laid to rest. I am his Great-Aunt and my heart breaks for my brother Stan and Sharon Jones. He was so loved by so many, including us. He was the bright spot in his parent’s life, as well as Stan and Sharons’. He was smart, he was caring, he loved Jesus, he loved hunting and fishing, he loved his family and friends. Drake will be missed, but we need to hold onto the fact that God had other plans for him and he needs to be in Heaven to carry them on. We don’t understand it, we don’t want to accept it. Drake touched so many lives in his short 17 years on this Earth. It is evident in the tremendous outpouring of love and support from the community he lived and grew up in. I saved several pictures from Cindy’s Face Book page. They showed various ages of Drake as he was growing up. Always smiling, of course. The last video I saw of him was his Birthday party Dec 3rd. He seemed embarrassed from all the attention, but still had had his cute smile. It wasn’t a very long video, but quite evident Drake was loved!!! Drake, you stole our hearts and we will forever hold you close.

  66. Charles and Vera Cook Says:

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. So thankful you brought him up in church because we know there will be a glad reunion day! We loved our memories we have from the Mudcat days of playing baseball. Keep your eyes on Jesus and remember That Glad Reunion Day will come!

  67. Moriah Williams Says:

Drake, I wish I could have gotten to know you better, it’s hard when family lives so far apart. I was only able to meet you once. I enjoyed seeing your pictures through Instagram and keeping up with you through social media. Through those pictures I saw that you enjoyed life and had an amazing community surrounding you. It brings me much joy to see that you put your trust in Jesus Christ and called him your savior. Though you were called home earlier than we expected I have peace knowing that you are in heaven. I think it is a great testimony to see that you not only glorified God while you were here with us on earth but also that God is continuing to be glorified through your passing. To hear how Hazen, your church body, school, friends and family have all come together with love for you is truly divine. Cant wait to see you in heaven, you will always be missed.
    Love you, your cousin Moriah.

  68. Marissa Pate Says:

I was so devastated to hear the news of Drakes passing. It is hard to understand why God has called Drake home at such a young age but I trust God had a plan for his life. My heart aches for Jason, Cindy, Uncle Stan, Aunty Sharon, and Jenny. I cannot imagine what they have been going through but I pray God provides them with peace and comfort. I only meet Drake one time when he came to visit California but I remember going to the beach with him and seeing him play in the ocean. I remember him saying how salty the water tasted but I can tell he was loving it. You are loved and will be forever missed.

  69. Melanie (Booth) Hodges Says:

I’m very sorry for your loss and will continue to pray for God’s blessings and comfort during this difficult time.
